This is an old revision of the document!
The term “credits” is used to represent an internal currency used in Geminars. As you may have noticed; Geminars is actually an almost free application. Accounts are for life. Moreover, you get 100 credits free when you register.
One credit is currently simply 1 Indian Rupee… approximately 0.011$ USD However, during some promotions we may even have a better rate.
If you are just watching videos in a Geminar, there are no charges whatsoever. Also, listening to a broadcast is totally free to the audience. (Only the Author pays for the broadcasting)
Some credits are deducted for each chat message and for a “beckoning” (i.e. clicking the beckon button) Credits are also deducted for setting up a new Geminar. And, audio-broadcasting also deducts credits (charged as per time)
While setting up the Geminar, firstly; the author has to pay for creating a Geminar. But for the Geminar itself, interaction costs (i.e. chats and beckons) can be passed on to the viewers. Also, the author can also (if he/she so wants) to charge an extra top-up from the viewers for chats and beckons. That additional amount are passed to the Author as his/her “earnings”.
You can easily purchase credits (Rs 500/- or more) from one of the two payment gateways we have setup: Razorpay (useful for Indians) and Stripe (useful for those outside India)
Apart from making a payment at one of the two payment gateways; you should ALSO do one more step: You would be emailed the receipt for the payment. The receipt no (in case of Stripe) or the Payment ID (in case of Razorpay) must then be entered into the “Add Credits” dialog of any Geminar account.
We made this 2 step process because it should be possible for one Geminar account be funded by someone else. (Say a father wants to gift some credits to his daughter)
As explained earlier; authors may charge an additional amount over and above our platform fees. Those extra credits are accumulated as the earnings for that person. Currently, these earnings are automatically transferred as credits whenever the credits become 0 or less. In future; we will strive to payout the earnings as money back to the authors. Unfortunately, the RBI – Reserve Bank of India – does not permit such payouts as of now.
By default, we want to permit whatever you are doing to go ahead (as much as possible) without worrying about credits. We deduct credits after you have done the action. For example; you may have just 5 credits remaining in your account. But you then ended up broadcasting for 15 minutes. When it comes to deducting the credits, our server will note that your credits are now -10 (we assume here that the rate for broadcasting is 1 credit per minute) At this point you may not be able to carry out any other action that consumes credits. Not to worry: Simply purchase more credits and add those into your account. So if you had added 500, then now the total credits you will have would be 490
